Thank you for entering your Complimentary Colours entries.

This week, I've been thinking about complimentary colours and why I chose it as theme for this challenge.  Like most art students, I learnt the basics of colour theory creating my own colour wheel and learning about the relationships of colours on the wheel: colours beside each other being harmonious colours and colours opposite each other being "complimentary" to each other. It seemed to me that "complimentary" was an strange name - as if these colours paid each other a compliment - when they are the opposite of each and made each other look brighter.  They can even "clash". In Australia so much of our landscape has the orange of the earth and the blue of the sky and our art so often depicts this.

Complementary colours are explained  well on this link ...

https://www.thoughtco.com/color-theory-for-painting-2578070

Basically the complementary colour of a primary (red blue and yellow ) is a mixture of the other two primary colours  so  the complementary of red is green , a mix of blue and yellow ; the complementary  of blue is orange, a mix of red and yellow and lastly, that of yellow is a mix of red and blue ... purple.  It was the first thing I learned at Art school ... crikey ...that was a very long time ago
