Yes ... I remember  ...Long overdue  this  Memorial was  in my opinion ...

To date  over 58,000 names have been laser cut into these metal wall panels ...at last a fitting tribute to those  who died in Bomber Command . The  spire is exactly the length of the wingspan of the Lancaster Bomber..

Hi Polly, looks a quiet day but I do hope you enjoyed your visit to the IBCM.

As with most memorials it can be a very lonely place at times, if any TIPF members are thinking of visiting at some point I would suggest checking the events page which can add interest to a visit https://internationalbcc.co.uk/your-visit-events/events/ and of course there is also the Chadwick Centre where you can spend some time viewing the exhibits.

It was pretty busy  despite the impression you get from my photos Colin.... you could say they were taken strategically ... I was very impressed  with the indoor exhibition with all the interactive stuff they had.     There was a great sense of space on the hill overlooking Lincoln where the Spire may well become  as much of a landmark as the Cathedral  was  to those brave airmen who were lucky enough to make it back from a bombing raid .  I thought the wall of names really brought home the  sheer numbers of those lost ....I spent the whole day there and found it a poignant experience .

 Thanks for the link Colin

Oops I think I need to straighten up my second image ...  ?

I particularly like the last one Clicks.  The selective focus and the texture make for an interesting and satisfying image.

I agree that the memorial was long overdue.  You can agree or disagree with "Bomber" Harris's continued/overuse of the controversial area bombing strategy but the to allow the post event politics to negate recognition of the bravery and sacrifice of those that were not the architects of it but merely tasked with a duty to implement it, was an injustice to say the least.  Rant over.

Very long overdue. How could ........ I won't rant though I could. It may hijack your post.

I  know Bill .... I  bit my tongue a bit whilst posting and only hinted  at how strongly I felt  about the disgraceful treatment  of Bomber  Command post 1945.. Yes ...it probably isn't the place to start the debate   but   the  love and respect  millions of us have for  the Avro Lancaster ... an emblem  of bravery and sacrifice  in my view,  sort of confirms  the feelings so many of us have  towards that omission ...

Have you managed to get to see it yet Bill?
