TOUGH TIMES-TOUGH KID

This past few days have been an emotional roller coaster for our family.....our youngest granddaughter ( 14 yrs) has a genetic problem that causes curvature of the spine....on Tuesday three surgeons battled for over 7 hours to attach rows of bolts to each side of almost every vertebrae ....these are slotted at the top to take strong but malleable titanium rods. A pair of these rods were placed into the slots then locked down....then using surgical mole-grips the rods together with her badly deformed spine was straightened.

our little lass will be able to breathe properly again, and she will be so much taller....but in the meantime the shock and long healing process are taking their toll, on our little one....on a general Ward now, she is beginning the long process of healing and bodily adjustment. I have never seen a scar so long before....from base of neck to lower back.

We all know, that her strength of character will help bring her through....

She has a life-time of smaller procedures to endure, just to function physically.....we are all so very proud of her courage and positive outlook.

We oldies have problems, plus aches and pains by the score.....but to have them and worse at her age saddens us greatly.

Goodness Fooj ... what a mammoth undertaking for all of you  to experience ,... surgeons , family and not least, your plucky little granddaughter. The relief that this huge part of her journey to better  health has been a success, is palpable  in reading your words  of relief and pride in her courage . In wishing you and all your family continued positivity in her recovery I  am sure I echo the feelings of all your friends and fellow toggers  on the forum . ... sending you lots of love and good vibes  dear Fooj .x

An awful thing for a young girl to have to endure but on the brighter side, praise be that such a thing is possible in modern medicine.  I hope that what she is going through will lead her to some sort of normality for the life ahead of her.
