Yeah..the sound, given all the times i have seen these aircraft at airshows, photographed them, been up close and personal and sat in the cockpits...I still run outside into the garden like a ten year old when I hear a Merlin !

(next time use 1/125th for prop blur Geoff)

Thanks Denis and Gareth, to be honest I was more concerned with getting an in focus shot than trying anything fancy and missing them completely. Unlike maybe an air-show, this was just a fly past over the town in a valley with buildings in the way.

that can be fixed in Photoshop though

Two more nice captures Rye.

At one stage of my working life, I looked after a buying office at BAE Warton.  One of the more interesting jobs that the company got involved in at that time was to rebuild a Mk IX (I think) Spitfire that had been a gate guardian at an RAF base.  Locating and buying the various components was a bit of a challenge.  For instance, we couldn't find a Merlin engine and Rolls zero houred a Griffon for us (Shackletons were still flying at that time) and ironically, the only place  that we could get the propeller made was in Germany.
