The Peacock butterfly is common enough but in my experience, I rarely see one in as good a condition as this one.  The Chaser is called Scarce because it apparently is.  If I have got the ID right, it is not normally seen as far north as Cumbria.

Two excellent catches there John ... and. Yes ... the Peacok certainly looks like that is it’s Sunday best....  the Scarce Chaser looks fab too ... seems a bit shorter in length than some of the more  common ones

I haven’t checked for exif data so can you elaborate ..  please .?

Thanks Clicks.  It seems (from my trusty FSC card) that Damselflies, Darters, Hawkers and Dragonflies all have relatively long bodies but Chasers are shorter and thicker.  I don't think this one is out of the ordinary unless it's the angle of the VP.  I guess only nature knows why they evolved that way. (? anybody)

EXIF Data:

Peacock B/F - Fuji X-T2 plus 55-20mm lens at 200mm.  1/900th sec   f10   ISO 800

Scarce Chaser - Fuji X-T2 plus 55-200mm lens at 200mm.  1/1800th sec   f5.6   ISO 800

I must have been capturing something else before the Chaser because I would normally work at f8 and above and the shutter speed didn't have to be that high.  Consequently, the chasers wing are just easing out of focus towards the tips.  But you grab these shots while you can.

I never cease to be amazed at the storage capacity it has .....

…………….  or hasn't.

Just remembered why the settings for the Chaser were as they were.  I had started out trying to capture it on the wing … but I wasn't quick enough.
