Not for me John. I think an original strong photograph shows the skill of a Photographer, an original painting in watercolours or oils etc shows the skill of an Artist. I'm not sure what this kind of thing shows other than the skill of the computer programmer?

Thanks for the comments both of you.  Not everyone's cup of tea I grant you but I'm never sure whether the dearth of comments for this sort of image is politeness or just about not knowing what to say.

Colin, for me, computers, cameras and for that matter, artist's materials are just tools.  What matters is what people do with them and the images that result.  This is an extreme case of digital manipulation and results from the simple application of a ready made plugin filter so I'm never going to be protective of it.  I much prefer the image it was made from (which I will post sometime) but Click's comments tempted me to see what response it got.

I do like playing with similar things, there's a free filter called Redfield Finetouch - that works with Photoshop and other software - I like using it as an overlay/blending layer over the original image.

Like Gareth, I'm not keen of the framing for this image as I think it detracts from the graphic quality of the image. To be honest I'm all for playing with various filters just to see what you get, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes they work really well.

I can image this as an old 1930-40's poster for steam train journeys with a bit of a more work...

(See this image I did, taken in Silsden of a nail sculpture.)

Completely missed this one, so.....

Overall it has a very nice feel to it and you get full marks from me for giving it a go. I agree with Gareth in that the border looks a bit scrappy and doesn't show the image off to it's best.

Although tempted, I'm not about to get into the 'is it art? is it photography?' debate as it's all been said a million times. But I will say that I'm always pleased to see work like this posted on TIPF.
