Whats wrong with this ? i look to have a double image on some fine hairs but not on all, playing with cheap Olympus kit zoom and ext ring waiting for decent weather.I used the built-in flash.

Were you tripod mounted and what was the shutter speed Mike.  Looks like the subject has been captured by the flash and under ambient light after the flash has gone off.  If you were hand held and the shutter speed was low enough, you could have registered some movement either in distance to the subject or laterally caused by camera movement or the subject moving.  My thoughts if it helps.

No need to go any further you have sorted it thanks, its a lot of years since i did anything much with close up and flash and had forgotten these things.
