Chatsworth House

We spent a few days in Derbyshire this week and visited Chatsworth House.  I had recently traded in my 14mm f 2.8 for a 16mm f1.4 purely because the extra aperture available would make hand held interiors easier so Chatsworth provided an opportunity to try the lens out.  The first image of the dining room is hand held and has had a little sharpening.  I was able to steady my hand for the second image of the Library and so it has needed no sharpening.  It was just exposed for the lights and only the shadows have been lifted in PP.

Hmm I can’t see the first image John ... is the total size of the two images  in excess of the ceiling  allowed for file size on one posting? If so try posting them in two consecutive posts on this thread ... ...

Fabulous colour palette  and beautiful detail though John ....

Not a lover of stately homes, but the quality of these pics is very apparent.

Know what you mean about losing sharpness of images posted to TIPF - can be very frustrating as it sometimes seems like pot luck.

Some nice images there John, we had planned to go last year but there was scaffolding up around the house.

I know what you mean, it does seem a bit random...

It's now finally down after 15 years but the frontage looks wonderful.  All of the window frames are now gilded.

Loved seeing these John - reminded me very much of my visit to Chatsworth House on my back to UK trip in October 2014, just after the Dowager Duchess passed away. The entry hall area was swamped with beautiful bouquets and tributes, but we enjoyed our day anyway and I took heaps of photos because we don't get to see much or this sort of history over here.

Two nice pictures, and I always find they look clearer in the large view.

Thanks all for the comments.  Reputedly, the Duke and the Duchess feed all of the revenues back into the estate.  I think it must be true.  Unlike some houses we have visited, the place is immaculate.

Thanks, Kobione.  You are right.  The larger view seems to sharpen images up slightly.  Strange - but useful.
