Love these, they always remind me of a ....Humbug.....wouldn’t want to chew on one though.....it would be like swallowing a wasp. 🤓😬

I like Hoverflies. They've the attitude of a wasp even though they're mimicking, funny to watch. Nice shot John.

Nice capture John, I think I've photographed this same species.

A lot of people mistake them for wasps, I was sat outside my local pub the other week and a lady who was sat on the bench opposite started jumping around because a hoverfly was buzzing about. The guy she was with noticed me looking and said she didn't like wasps, so I told them it wasn't a wasp but a hoverfly - a wasp mimic and therefore couldn't sting and a conversation ensued about how to tell the difference between hoverflies and wasps/bees... I think they just thought me a nutter....
