Collared Dove ??

Recommended Posts

While I am posting pictures of birds, this Dove was perched in a tree down by the river yesterday evening. Now my RSPB book of birds description for the collared dove  dont quite match this image I took, anyone confirm exactly what it is please?

It certainly looks like a Collared Dove to me, just been comparing it with images that I've taken of Collared Doves, it might be a little paler, but the red eyes and legs and the dark collar are all what I would except to see.

We have a pair of Collared Doves visit our bird feeder almost every day.....you might be seeing Spring plumage.....as far as I know, many bird species, have brighter plumage during the mating and nesting period.

Very delicate, good looking birds when compared to the pigeon.....brighter too, just like the crows, jackdaws and magpies the collared doves have learned to twist their shoulders to get between the 3 inch centred bars of my feeder....these totally frustrate the greedy pigeons, who are just too thick to work them out.
