CASUAL PORTRAIT

Early this very chilly morning I chanced upon this attractive young lady waiting for someone in front of a white painted wall...I just couldn't let such a golden opportunity pass could I?

I really had to pluck up all my courage to request a portrait in this instance...to my surprise and great please she simply smiles then relaxed as we chatted about focus and softness.

Here is the best of three frames...my dilemma?

To crop or not?

Either for me... although the crop does show the focus is a little soft around the edges. Was this taken with one of your bargain lens Fuji?

Hi Colin,

Spot on observation Sir........I used the 25-1.4 CCTV lens.....the one that produces the quirkiest results especially wide open.

I test myself most days by sticking just one lens on camera, then, making do.....Sod’s Law would dictate that I chanced on a perfect morning model against a white background when all I had was my cheapest/ quirkiest lens.

So, I made best use of its attributes, by ensuring best eye focus letting the remainder take care of itself....it worked beautifully.

I am delighted with the results, one that might take an age with expensive glass...or...take some time in Photoshop to reproduce....

I much appreciate your observations and interest.

I can honestly thank my subject, the morning was cold, damp and at just after 08:00 it wasn’t the best time to ask a young lady to have her portrait taken....but nothing ventured....nothing gained.

I fully expected an embarrassed refusal, but instead I received a smiling approval......sometimes.....the Magic happens.
