A Day Out In Rochdale

Or strictly speaking - another day out in Rochdale... as it's the second time I've been in two weeks..

I know, not the most obvious place to go for a day out or indeed photo opportunities (other than Gracie Fields, Lisa Stansfield and Mike Harding singing about Rochdale Cowboys) it was a place I've never been too, despite being 15ish miles away...

The Rochdale Pioneers Museum - and a rather unique post box incorporated into a lamp (It's a converted First National Standard pillar box of 1859 - one of only two post boxes in the world that are incorporated in a street lamp - the other is in Paris)

Thanks Kev and Clicker - didn't know that baum meant tree in German, there is a church just opposite called St Mary in the baum, which with a little bit of digging via Google, baum in Rochdale dialect means balm, and apparently refers to the wild flowers which grew in the meadows where the church was built. Apparently there's a  phantom Rabbit seen around here called the Baum Rappit and Toad Lane is thought to be a corruption of T'Owd Lane (The Old Lane)
