An Ichneumon Wasp of some kind I thnk, been seeing a lot of these recently, but they always fly off before I can get a close up...

I used to get lots of these on my Box hedges.....as with all flying insects they seem to have the habit of returning to the same sunny spot, especially as the sun is setting.

Nice find m8 - these are occasional visitors to my garden, but there are many sub-species which makes them hard too ID precisely for me. It has a rather stumpy back end though so that could help narrow it down.

Thanks Paul, these were at a local picnic site just outside Whalley called Spring Wood, yes, when I looked I noticed there were a lot of similar looking ones.
