Grim up north!

Two day visit to west Yorkshire. Very hard frost this morning, cloud in the valley with sunshine on the hilltops.

A chilly set David ... Pick of the bunch for me is the sheepdog ....nicely composed ..

Good set - #3 really floats me boat, it's almost surreal the way the mist separates the sunlit uplands from the shaded foreground; almost like two separate pictures.

I agree. I was trying to get a 'city in the sky' feel which would have been better in landscape but I couldn't get it all in with the 70-300 lens which was the only one I had with me.

Interesting set of images - you seem to be having white balance issues?

Are these processed from raw files or in camera jpegs?

They were all taken in RAW. I have auto WB on my camera and then  play around with it in Lightroom. The pictures would have started as 'cloudy' or 'shade' and then  I fiddle with the temperature controls till I get something I'm happy with, trying to emphasise the coldness.What would you suggest?

Thats the accepted way to do it but other than the misty valley scene the shots have a very strong cyan cast to them. I wonder do you simply prefer tat colouring (nothing wrong in that) or could your monitor be displaying things incorrectly?

All I have done to this is use the WB dropper in ACR on the wall of a building - its not perfect and you could tweak it for feel and effect but it shows how strong a cast the original has...

Thanks BP, the WB dropper is uncharted territory for me but I can now see how it can be used. I'll have a play with it.

Interesting. I'd noticed that cast too, but assumed it was deliberate to exaggerate the cold.

That was the intention but when viewed against BPs edit, I can see I could have been a little more subtle in it's application.

Yeah sometimes less is more eh ... Try  them with a little less of the cyan cast ... especially the one with the dog ...I think it'll look better  but still have that "Brrr" feel to it .
