My walk route

Denis

Recommended Posts

The length often varies but usually done at a fast pace  for exercise, overall its about five miles there and back, but I thought I would share some of the views from along this stretch of the Stort. One or two of the locations are familiar scenes in most of my photos, It has been a pleasant day today so here we go.....

Well iI enjoyed that Denis .... a brisk walk is always good for one's constitution :yes ii is very similar to one of my canal walks and  it's interesting to  walk in another members footsteps. ... phew  i could do with a brew now !

An informative set of images Denis....  ..1st  and 10th are  my faves too . You may  want to edit and number them   so everyone  doesn't have to scroll to count down .......lol   Thanks for sharing  those ... it looks a  lovey walk.

I'd swap for our daily constitutional as well - that walk looks great.

Some years ago I got into conversation with a man who painted the kind of artwork shown in your last two pictures. I made the mistake of referring to his boat as a 'barge', he wasn't pleased and lost no time in pointing out my mistake. It seems these are narrowboats, barges are the ones that used to carry cargo.

I point this out in the hope that you haven't already upset the narrowboat community and they aren't planning to come round and brick your windows!

Thanks to all for your comments and replies,

Firstly, I have walked this route every weekend for a while now. I started pace walking or speed walking, whatever you like to call it eight years ago after my heart attack and subsequent triple bypass. Before then, as an international lorry driver for over twenty six years I did little exercise, if any!

I have never played sport as I have no interest in any sport whatsoever, and as a lifestyle change, fast walking became my exercise whenever I could, I started out walking the perimeter track of a disused wartime airfield nearby as it was three miles around it. but I settled on the river route as it is more ...idyllic Most times I dont take a camera , preferring to walk fast and get my heart rate up, sometimes the wife and I cycle the route right through to Stanstead Abbotts & Ware. Sometimes we stop for dinner in a pub or take a picnic .

I still drive trucks for a living , so cannot do the walk during the weekdays. I shall save that for when i retire in three years time!

Korky,

I do know these craft as Narrowboats, but hereabouts Barge is just as acceptable, as at one time they all carried cargo, not just for living on. Quite a few of the larger house boats are in fact Dutch or Belgian barges, and the owners prefer barge as that species is certainly not narrow!

Black Pearl,

You would swap your beach for this ? or did i read that wrong?? anyway, it was your regular beach visits that inspired me to record some of the sights along the way, if people would want to record their walks on this very post I would love to see them :)

I'm up for that - our regular walk (about 3 miles and done often since this awful weather came to stay) takes in some very nice woodland and some parkland and I shall do some pics on our next outing.

A great thread, Denis, thanks!

Yesterday morning was bright and sunny and so we decided on an early walk and I took a camera. Needless to say, twenty minutes into the walk, The Great Wetness returned from somewhere in the west and things changed slightly.

However, I pressed on and took some photos to record the outing and here they are. They've had a bit of Korkification to give 'em a wee lift and, as usual, the larger versions look better and brighter.

Off the main road and around the perimeter of the cemetery...
