ohnar c1337 slide duplicator - it zooms from 0.6 to 1.6 so it works ok for crop sensor cameras.

connected to the camera via a t mount adaptor. all mounted on a tripod and facing indirect sunlight through a net curtain.

connected to eos utility to use the laptop screen for previewing the shot and taken using a wired remote control.

the times are between 4 to 6 seconds.

i can't get some of the slides into focus and dust and hairs are a pain, but you can scan them pretty quickly once it's all set up.

the scan of concorde was done using this method.

i originally bought a cheap dedicated scanner from amazon but the light wasn't the same across the whole slide - the centre of the image was a lot brighter.

it also tended to emphasise the grain of the slide.

when i get time i will try this with negatives.

I find it not blurred but also not sharp, if that makes sense? In other words, as if taken with a cheap lens but not out of focus. I don't think that detracts in any way from the shot. I personally think we tend to get too hung up about sharpness.

yeah, the picture is soft as in not blurred but not sharp.
some sites sharpen images when they are uploaded. this one doesn't so i need to sharpen them a bit more.
anyway, i used my pixel sharpener on the train driver and came up with this.

any more sharpeness and his suit starts looking like something out of 70's disco.
