thanks for looking.

i looked at it symmetrically but thought it looked more like a pattern. i tried to get it to look more 3d-ish by shooting at an angle. maybe next time i'll try both.

i'll have a try at sharpening it a bit - i'm always worried about oversharpening. :happy:

i'm using raw files produced by a canon camera and they all come out soft; so i need to sharpen them and i'm always worried about oversharpening.

and as a Raw file they will always need 'sharpening' which is all part of processing a raw file, any in camera adjustment will make no difference to a raw file.

Interesting picture, although I find the composition a little harsh and would have preferred to pull the lens back but as you shot this with a kit lens I'm assuming it would be 18mm at its widest?

yes, it was the widest it would go - 28mm in old currency.

i don't know if it would have been better to shoot just a small section, but i like seeing that much wood and skill.

No -  I think you did the best with what you have as a small section wouldn't really do the craftsmen justice.
